He sat next to me in art class

My first real crush was in high school. He was talented, funny and way more popular than I was. He had these fantastically intense blue eyes and very, very straight blond hair.

I thought he only saw me as an art buddy. It was only after I’d met Ex and we were a couple that I found out art guy had wanted to date me but thought I wasn’t interested in him that way. Ah, well.

And here’s a lovely little animated piece about first crushes. Enjoy.

  1. You know, I really can’t remember my first crush. I was always pretty stupid when it came to the boy-girl stuff. I remember when I was 16 and moved to the capital city my best friend’s older brother moved at the same time and he asked me if I wanted to go out with him. We never managed to find time to meet up and it was only after many, many long conversations that I realised when he’d said “go out with him” he hadn’t meant having a cup of coffee.
I’m not much better at picking up on these things now.

  2. Her name was Miranda. She was very pretty and so nice. She always smelled like bubble gum and I was so addicted to her smile.. 3 years after I met her, I asked her to dance and we kissed. I had no idea what happened but it was nice.. And yea.. she tasted like bubble gum..

  3. I honestly can’t remember. I’ve always been more attracted to someone’s mind rather then just based on looks though. Good looking and arrogant or mean or stupid just isn’t attractive, no matter what the packaging looks like!
Michele sent me over to say hi.

  4. You know mine. The first kiss kisser. He was cute like Opie. But I was very fickle and had crushes.
Thanks for the link to the Suzanne story!

  5. I previously wrote in my blog about my first serious boyfriend contacting me 37 years after high school (When Are You Too Old For A Pen Pal?) and now he and his wife are coming to town next month and we will visit for the first time in all these years. I’m going nuts trying to figure out what to say when we meet up! Stay tuned for that entry around mid-November. Can I link back to this blog entry of yours then? I loved watching the film, thanks for including it.
